My Central Pennsylvania Newborn Photography: Why I Do In-Person Consultations

If you’ve shopped around for photographers in the past, you might know that every photographer has a different process or experience for their photo sessions. Some provide more hands-on support, service, and guidance while others use simplified processes that don’t involve as much time or one-on-one attention. In my central Pennsylvania newborn photography studio, I’m all about attentive service!

I know how important your newborn portraits are to you - the first professional photos your little one will ever have and the only ones you’ll have when they’re this tiny. These portraits are worthy of an investment, not only from you but from me too. I’m dedicated to creating custom portraits that are unique to your family, and one of the ways I do that is by starting with an in-person consultation. Here are a few insights into why I provide in-person consultations and the difference they make for my clients.

Providing a Full-Service Experience for Central Pennsylvania Newborn Photography

As a mom, I know first-hand that life is busy when you’re preparing for a new baby…and that’s an understatement! You have so much on your plate already, and my philosophy is that you should be able to get stunning newborn photos without adding more chores to your list. In-person consultations allow you and I to sit down for some dedicated planning time so I can use your preferences and vision to plan your photo session, help you decide what to wear, and more.

Getting to Know Your Tastes

Custom photography, including central Pennsylvania newborn photography, is all about capturing your special memories in a way that’s authentic to you and your family. Your family’s personalities should shine through in your portraits. Spending time with you in person lets me get to know you and your family so I can create portraits that are true to who you are.

Designing Your Session for the Final Result

I believe portraits should be displayed and loved in your home, not sitting on a storage drive or in the cloud. An in-person consultation gives us a chance to talk about how and where you might want to display your portraits. This way, I can design your session using color schemes, compositions, and other details that will coordinate perfectly with your home decor.

Camp Hill Newborn Photos: Should You Include Siblings?

Bringing a new baby into your family is such a different experience when you already have children compared to when it’s your first baby. On one hand, you already have a lot of essentials at home like furniture, but on the other hand, there are so many new considerations to plan for and think about like preparing your children for the new baby. One of these considerations is your Camp Hill newborn photos.

If your baby will have a big brother or sister, should you include these siblings in your newborn portraits? What can you expect if you do? As your trusted neighborhood photographer, I’m happy to shed some light.

Should You Include Your Baby’s Siblings in Their Camp Hill Newborn Photos?

Ultimately, this is purely a matter of preference and it’s a question each family has to decide for themselves. However many of my clients do decide to capture sibling portraits and portraits of the entire family together. Sibling portraits often become parents’ favorites among their newborn photos!

Including your baby’s siblings is a way to capture a look at the one-of-a-kind bond between your little ones from their earliest days. The experience of taking newborn portraits with your baby and their big brothers or sisters can also be a bonding experience in itself, demonstrating to your older kids that you’re all welcoming this new baby together as a family.

What Does it Look Like to Include Siblings in Newborn Portraits?

If your baby’s siblings are over 5 years old, we may be able to include their portraits in your baby’s studio newborn session. For kids under 5, though, or those who might prefer having space to run around, I offer a sibling add-on session. This session will take place in your home within a week of your baby’s studio newborn session. It gives your children the opportunity to be comfortable in their environment and makes the sibling portraits smoother for the whole family.

Will You Miss Out on Solo Baby Portraits if You Include Siblings in Your Camp Hill Newborn Photos?

Don’t worry, if you opt for sibling portraits, you’ll still have plenty of newborn photos of your baby on their own. This is the primary focus of every newborn photography session. Either way, you’ll also have plenty of portraits of your newborn with both parents and each parent separately.

Planning Your Camp Hill Newborn Photos

Every member of your family has their special bond with your new baby. Newborn photography is all about capturing the beauty of these bonds and of this amazing time in your life. Whether or not you choose to add sibling portraits, I’m honored to preserve these memories for your family. Contact Karissa Zimmer Photography to book your session.

Choosing a Harrisburg Newborn Photographer: Why Your Photographer Matters

Newborn portraits are a special treasure for your family, and you only have one opportunity to capture these beautiful memories for your child. Every Harrisburg newborn photographer is unique, though, so the portraits and the experience will be different based on the photographer you choose. Let’s look at a few of the many reasons your choice of photographer matters.

Well-Composed, Quality Photos

Your baby’s newborn photos are an investment - you’re creating family treasures that you’ll cherish for decades to come. You want those treasures to be high-quality! You need a photographer who has the experience and skill to create well-composed, professional photos.

A Keen Aesthetic Style

Photography is an art form, so of course, the artist you hire needs to have a style you love for your baby’s portraits. The camera settings, the framing, the way each pose and set is designed - all of this will combine into the finished look.

A Positive Experience with Your Harrisburg Newborn Photographer

Newborn sessions are multi-hour photo shoots, and that doesn’t even include the planning, ordering, and more - you want to enjoy the person you’re working with! The photographer you choose will affect your overall experience, not only because of how well you get along with the photographer but also because every photographer handles their planning and process differently.

Designing Display Products for Your Photos

Your choice of photographer will affect your portraits as well as what you ultimately do with those portraits. For example, I sit down with every client and help you plan, design, and order your wall art or other custom pieces to display your newborn photos. Each photographer handles the finished photos differently, with some sending digital files only.

Choosing Your Harrisburg Newborn Photographer

You’re celebrating a beautiful new addition to your family, and you deserve to get stunning portraits with an enjoyable, attentive experience, and all of this will depend on your photographer. To find out if I’m the right fit for you, contact Karissa Zimmer Photography.

What to Expect in Your Camp Hill Newborn Photo Session

As a newborn photographer, I serve clients often who have never had a newborn photo session before. Any new experience can be intimidating, and a newborn photo shoot looks very different from family photos or other photo sessions you’ve had in the past. It helps to have an idea of what to expect. Here’s a peek at what to expect in a Camp Hill newborn photo session.

How a Newborn Photo Session Works

During a newborn photo shoot, you and your spouse or partner will bring your little bundle of joy to my cozy home studio. Based on the details we discussed in our pre-session consultation, I’ll have a plan for what newborn props and sets I’ll use, what wraps, outfits, and accessories I’ll dress your baby in, and so on. You just show up looking camera-ready!

I typically begin with the photos of you and your partner with your baby, creating those precious portraits that highlight the deep bond you have with your new little one. After that, you and your partner can relax on the comfy furniture I have in my studio. I’ll spend the rest of the session gently posing your baby and creating the looks you love for your baby’s portraits. I’ll call on you as needed to feed or soothe your baby, but for most of the session, you can kick back and rest.

How Long a Camp Hill Newborn Photo Session Takes

Newborn photo sessions run on the baby’s timetable! Whenever your baby needs to take a break for a feeding or to fuss for a bit, we stop and give them what they need. Because of this, expect your session to last about six hours.

Planning Your Camp Hill Newborn Photo Session

Hopefully, your newborn photo session feels a bit less intimidating now that you know the basics of what to expect. If you’re expecting a baby or even if your baby has already arrived, contact Karissa Zimmer Photography to book your session.

Camp Hill PA Newborn Photos: Choosing a Color Palette

You only get to take beautiful newborn photos of your baby once, and you want them to be truly stunning. Every gorgeous newborn picture starts the same way: with excellent planning. As a photographer who specializes in Camp Hill PA newborn photos, I love working with families to plan their newborn sessions in a way that celebrates their beautiful new babies. Details like your color palette will make a difference.

How do you choose that color palette? I’ve got you covered.

Tips for Choosing a Color Palette for Your Camp Hill PA Newborn Photos

As your trusted neighborhood photographer, I’m happy to help you pick the perfect colors for your baby’s portraits. Keep these tips in mind.

Decide Where You’ll Display Your Portraits

I’m all about giving families tangible portraits they can hang on their walls and enjoy every day. While you’ll love your baby’s newborn photos no matter what, you’ll love them even more if they complement the room where you hang them. Think about where and how you want to display your baby’s portraits and consider what colors in the portraits will best suit the colors and decor in that room.

Consider a Cultural Homage

A wonderful way to honor your cultural heritage is to incorporate colors into your newborn session that are special to your culture. Maybe they are colors that signify renewal or simply are central to your culture, but either way, I’m happy to bring in your cultural aesthetic.

You’ll Never Go Wrong with Neutrals

It’s true, neutrals are always an excellent choice for your Camp Hill PA newborn photos. Every baby looks beautiful in white or shades of tan and brown!

Talk to Your Photographer

As a photographer, I’m not just there for my clients during their photo shoot. I’m here to support you through the entire process, and that includes offering my expertise in the planning. I’m happy to make color recommendations based on my experience.

Camp Hill Newborn Photographer Answers Your Most Embarrassing Questions

So many of the families I work with are experiencing professional newborn portraits for the first time. Whether they’re new parents or they have other kids but they’re trying professional portraits for the first time, they usually have plenty of questions. As a Camp Hill newborn photographer, I’m happy to help and answer any questions you might have!

There are some questions that make parents blush, though, or that you might be too embarrassed to ask. First of all, let me assure you that I’ve been photographing babies and families for many years, so I’ve seen and heard it all! You can ask me anything. To help you know what to expect before your photo session, I’m answering some of the top embarrassing newborn photo questions in this blog.

What happens if my baby pees or poops during the session?

Honestly, accidents happen – a lot! You might notice that you don’t often see diapers in newborn portraits. It’s a risk we willingly take.

If and when your baby pees or poops when they’re diaper-free during their photo session, don’t be embarrassed. Your baby is just being their natural and healthy self. I have plenty of clean-up supplies and extra items available.

However, I do encourage parents to bring an extra outfit for their newborn session. If your baby uses the bathroom on you during your portraits with the baby, a backup outfit lets us still get the sweet family shots we want.

I’m self-conscious about my postpartum body. Do I have to be in my baby’s newborn photos?

First things first: you have no reason to be self-conscious. I get it, your body has changed so much in the past several months (and several weeks), but it’s the mark of all that amazing work your body has done.

With that said, I want you to feel confident postpartum and at ease during your photo session. We don’t have to include you or your partner; we can just focus on solo newborn portraits. As a Camp Hill newborn photographer and family photographer, I can also strategically pose you in flattering ways. I can compose pictures as well that don’t show your belly, like photos of you holding your baby lovingly against your cheek.

Will I be able to pump or breastfeed during my baby’s photo session?

Absolutely! My private studio is designed for newborns and their parents, and I want you to be able to feel at home. I have plenty of quiet places where you can breastfeed or pump. Because newborn sessions can last up to six hours, this is something we plan for in every session.

What if my baby’s older siblings are being disruptive during the newborn photo session?

Is there anything more precious than portraits showing the instant love between your new baby and their siblings? Bringing young toddler siblings to a newborn session doesn’t work well, though, because newborn sessions are so lengthy. What child wouldn’t get antsy after sitting in a studio for six hours? We also want to maintain a quiet, relaxed setting so we can keep your baby asleep for most of the session.

That’s why, for families that want sibling portraits, I offer a sibling add-on option. We’ll do your baby’s full newborn session in my studio, and on a different day, we’ll do a brief sibling photo shoot at your home. This way, you get the stunning sibling shots you want but your kids have the space to have fun and be kids.

I want to maintain my baby’s modesty in their newborn portraits. Can a Camp Hill newborn photographer do this?

Of course! These are your newborn photos, and we can be as modest as you would like to be. Generally, nude poses are done in a way that hides any private areas other than possibly your baby’s butt in some poses. However, if you prefer not to do any nude poses, I’m happy to stick to wrapped newborn portraits.

Questions to Ask Your Newborn Photographer

Newborn photography is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to preserve this incredibly special and brief time in your baby’s life. You only get one chance for these sentimental portraits, so of course, you want to make the most of this opportunity. And who’s the expert in making the most of your session? Your newborn photographer, of course!

As you’re hiring a newborn photographer in Camp Hill PA or wherever you are, asking the right questions can allow you to enjoy a smoother process with outstanding results. To help you make that happen, I’m laying out the top questions to ask your newborn photographer.

What Can I Expect from the Process Ahead?

Every photographer has their own process and their own steps they follow. Will there be an in-person consultation or just a chat over the phone? How long will your photo session be? When and how will you be able to order your finished products? This varies for each photographer, so it’s not a good idea to make assumptions.

As an example, here’s a rundown of my process:

  1. In-person Consultation – We’ll chat about how to prepare for your session and what to expect during your session, as well as your vision for your newborn portraits and the ways you want to use your finished portraits (where you might want to hang them in your home, for instance) so I can customize your session to fit your vision.
  2. Your Newborn Photo Session – We’ll meet in my comfortable and well-equipped home studio, starting in the morning for a relaxed session of up to six hours so we can allow as much time as you need for feeding and soothing your baby between shots.
  3. Editing – I’ll custom edit the best photos from your session to give you that true “wow” factor.
  4. Viewing and Ordering Appointment – You’ll return to my studio for your appointment about two weeks after your photo session, where I’ll present you with a slideshow with all your amazing newborn photos and you’ll decide what finished products you want to order
  5. Delivery – I’ll deliver your finished heirloom-quality products to you about 4-6 weeks after your ordering appointment and help you hang your pieces in your home so you can enjoy them immediately.

How Should I Prepare for My Newborn Photo Session?

In newborn photography, I recognize that many of my clients have never had a newborn photo session before, and for those who have, it was probably years ago. Make sure you’re receiving clear guidance about how to prepare for your session. For example, is there an ideal time you should feed your baby before the session? Should you try to get your baby to sleep when you arrive? Is there anything you should do or avoid to make sure your baby is feeling and looking picture-perfect?

What Should I Bring to My Newborn Photography Session?

As you saw above, my newborn photography sessions can last up to six hours. Babies have so many “accessories” they need over that amount of time, and so do new mamas – diapers, wipes, potentially a breast pump, snacks, and so on. There might also be specific items you want to incorporate into your newborn portraits, like family heirlooms or other items of significance. Make sure you get a list from your newborn photographer of anything they suggest that you bring to your session.

Can Parents and Siblings Be in the Newborn Photos?

Some families want the spotlight to be entirely on their new baby, while others want their photos to show this special moment in life for the entire family. Make sure you ask about this in advance so you know who to bring to your session and who should be picture-ready.

Each photographer has different policies, but I include parents in newborn portraits for no additional fee. For families with other children, I recommend my add-on sibling portrait session. This one to two-hour lifestyle session will take place at your home within one week of your newborn photo session. This way, your kids can be where they’re comfortable and you don’t have to bring them to your six-hour newborn session and keep them occupied for that length of time.

What Types of Photo Products Do You Offer as a Newborn Photographer?

Ultimately, the most magical part of newborn photography is having high-quality items that will last for generations. Make sure you know what your options will be, because each photographer sources these items from different artisans or businesses, and some don’t handle finished products at all. At my studio, for example, I proudly offer fine art custom framed prints, well-crafted Italian wall art, customized heirloom albums, mounted prints, and more.

Getting the Scoop from Your Newborn Photographer

As you’re hiring a newborn photographer, the questions you ask will set you up for an easier, less stressful process because you’ll have a clear understanding of the road ahead. Finding the right questions to ask your newborn photographer is the first step. Use the questions above to get the best results from your newborn portrait session. If you’re in the market for a photographer, schedule your newborn photography session with me in Harrisburg, PA today.

Choosing the best newborn photographer near Camp Hill PA

Choosing the best newborn photographer near Camp Hill PA may be one of the most important decisions you make when expecting a new baby! There are a few key factors that you may want to think about when deciding on something so very important! Are you patiently awaiting a new baby in the coming months? Have you just welcomed a precious newborn into the world? Your baby will only be a tiny newborn for such a very short time. Capturing these special new moments through professional newborn photography is likely on your mind! While price can often be a factor for many people when choosing a newborn photographer, it most certainly shouldn’t be your only deciding factor. Here you can find some great tips for choosing the best Camp Hill newborn photographer.

Best newborn photographer near camp Hill PA captures baby boy in newborn photo studio

Camp Hill Newborn Photographer SAFETY trained.

The safety of your baby should be your number one priority when choosing the best photographer to capture these sweet, delicate moments. Almost every expecting parent does a ton of research when it comes to selecting safe products and services such as bottles, car seats, cribs and child care providers. You will want to use this same standard of care when it comes to choosing your newborn photographer. You’ll want to know that the photographer who is handling and posing your sweet baby has the training necessary to pose your baby safely. A few things to ask your potential newborn photographer…

  1. Does the photographer have in-person newborn photography training?
  2. How long has the photographer been posing newborns?
  3. What is the studio sick policy?
  4. What are the studio cleaning practices?
  5. Is the photographer insured?
  6. Are there any additional precautions being taken?

I personally prioritize the safety of your baby above all else. There is absolutely nothing more important to me than keeping your precious little love safe during his or her newborn session. I have nearly 14 years experience working with newborn babies and have invested thousands of dollars in training workshops. I am constantly learning and perfecting my skill level and craft.

Specializing in Posed Newborn Photography.

When choosing the best newborn photographer near Camp Hill PA you will most certainly want to know that handling newborns is their area of expertise. Therefore, you’ll want to make sure that posing newborn babies is what your photographer specializes in. Professional newborn photographers should have the very specific and specialized training that is necessary when handling and posing tiny babies. An experienced newborn photographer will know how to sooth, position and pose your baby in the safest way. There are many genres of photography. Just because someone owns a camera and calls themselves a photographer does not mean they have the specialized training necessary to photograph a newborn. Quite like you would not seek the care of a cardiologist to deliver your baby even though they are both doctors – you likely won’t seek a wedding photographer or a family friend with a nice camera to photograph your baby.

The Location and Style

Each and every professional newborn photographer will have their very own special, unique style. Your newborn’s portraits will be something you have to look back on to remember and cherish for your entire lifetime. Therefore, it’s very important to choose a photographer with a style and images that tug at your heart strings. These images of your baby will be on display on your walls for many years to come, so be sure to select a photographer with a style that you love! I specialize in posed newborn photography and enjoy turning images of your most precious creation into works of art.

How far is the photographer’s studio located from your home? If you’re located in Central PA and looking for studio newborn photography near Mechanicsburg, Harrisburg or Camp Hill then my cozy newborn studio is just a short car ride away.

Investment and Artwork. “Full Service” vs “All-Inclusive” Newborn Photography

Newborn photography prices are based on a variety of factors such as the photographer’s experience and training, the quality of their work, the amount of time they spend working with each client throughout their portrait process, a customized-full service experience vs. a generic all- inclusive, product offering and quality, and design services offered.

I am a custom, full service newborn photographer. My focus is on a quality experience and product. I walk my clients through the entire portrait process from start to finish. From our initial phone conversation, through consultation, newborn photo session, ordering appointment and the delivery of your portrait art. I put great time, love and care into your newborn photography experience. It is my belief that any great product or service takes time when done well. I spend about 40 hours with each client from start to finish, making sure each of them receive exceptional quality and care, and a product that will help you remember your baby as a newborn, forever.

You can find newborn photography priced anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars, depending on the photographer and type of service they offer. A client of mine can typically expect to invest an amount between $2000 and $10,000 (although some spend a bit more or less) on a variety of portrait art such as beautiful framed prints, Italian wall art, heirloom albums, and keepsake folio display cases.

Professional newborn photography is an incredible luxury and a worthwhile investment in this wonderful time in your life! Your baby will only be so tiny for such a short time.

Newborn Photography in Camp Hill | Wyatt

Specializing in Newborn Photography in Camp Hill is an honor! My clients come to me with trust. I believe that is the foundation behind what I do as a newborn portrait photographer. Handing your precious little new baby over to anyone requires a ton of trust. My clients trusting me to capture images of their most important milestone in life, but above all else, they’re trusting me to keep their precious little baby safe. They trust me to guide them through this portrait process. To create images they will hold close to their hearts forever. The amount of trust a new parent places in who they chose to capture their newborn photography in Camp Hill is huge. It is not something I ever take for granted.

I hold the Smutz family close to my heart. There is no greater feeling than having clients trust me enough to return more than once. To bring not only their first precious newborn to me, but to return with baby number two! I first met this adorable couple in 2018 when they were looking for newborn photography in Camp Hill and expecting their first little guy, Ford. They told me all about him, his name, the special meaning behind how he got his name and how excited they were for his arrival. I knew he was so loved before he was even here. Fast forward to 2020 and they were just as excited to welcome Ford’s baby brother, Wyatt in the beginning of 2021! I was equally excited to see them all again and especially excited to meet the newest member of their family! I couldn’t wait to see Ford as a big bother!

Studio Newborn Photography in Camp Hill

Mom, Dad and Baby Wyatt came to my Camp Hill newborn photo studio within the first 10 days of Wyatt’s like for his first photo session. It’s amazing to see the ease in moms and dads of newborns the second time around! Laura and Joe were already pros by this session! In other words, they knew exactly what to expect and were much less sleep deprived than when Ford entered the world! Sleep deprived or not, a newborn photography session should be relaxed, laid back and stress free for new parents!

Sibling Add-On Photography Session

The Smutz Family chose to do a Sibling Add-On Session in their home. A perfect way incorporate a very young (BIG) brother in their newborn photos! A Sibling Add On Session is additional lifestyle session that takes place in the clients home. A studio newborn session can make for a long day and toddlers need their space to run around! Therefore, a Sibling Add on Session is absolutely a perfect solution for incorporating young and toddler age siblings!

Booking your Camp Hill Newborn Photography Session

Are you expecting a newborn this year? If so, it’s best to contact me many months before your baby is due! I take a very limited number of newborn clients each month. This allows me to give my undivided attention to each and every client from the start of planning your session through delivery and installation of your wall portraits. Let’s set up a consultation and plan your most special photo session ever! Send me a message HERE to get in touch! You can expect a phone call from me, so please list the best time of day to reach you by phone! Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Camp Hill Maternity Photography

husband kisses wife on the forehead at their camp hill maternity session

In the past few years, Camp Hill maternity photography sessions have become more popular and much more common. You’ve probably seen tons of maternity photos on your social media feeds as your friends celebrate their pregnancies. Maybe you’ve considered a maternity session but just aren’t sure if it’s right for you.

Well, if you have questions about maternity photography, I have answers! I put together some information on what to expect from a maternity session. And if you have any questions we don’t answer here, feel free to contact us and ask!

mom to be poses for maternity photos

What is a maternity session?

A maternity session is a professional photoshoot during the third trimester of your pregnancy that captures your baby bump and your anticipation as you prepare to welcome your new baby into the world. For first-time parents, it’s a fun way to mark and celebrate the transition into parenthood. For parents who already have kids, it’s often an opportunity for a photoshoot with the whole family.

Why should I book a Camp Hill maternity photography session?

There are so many reasons why maternity photography is worth the investment. I may be a little biased as a photographer, but I believe important moments in your life should be captured so you can look back on those memories for years to come. Whether this is your first child or not, your life and your family are both about to change in big ways. A maternity photo session allows you to capture the moment right before that change and celebrate what you and your partner have created together: a growing family.

family maternity pictures captured my karissa zimmer photography

What should I wear for maternity photos?

Like any photography session, this depends on your unique style and personality! My favorite option for maternity photos are flowing, floor-length gowns that give off an air of grace and elegance. They often make my maternity clients feel especially beautiful! But you can also wear your favorite maternity outfit, especially for a lifestyle session in your home.

When it comes to choosing a color, I always recommend opting for earth or jewel tones that are flattering to most skin tones, or even light pastels. Be sure to wear clothing that is fitted rather than flowy, so you can easily show off your bump!

When should I book a Camp Hill maternity photography session?

It’s never too soon to book! If you find a photographer you love, be sure to go ahead and book your session as soon as possible to ensure they have space for you on their calendar. As far as timing, you’ll want to schedule your session for some time after your 28th week of pregnancy when your bump is very visible but you’re not quite ready to pop just yet! If you’re expecting multiples, schedule your session for a little earlier, as your bump will already be more pronounced.

What should I do with my maternity photos?

There are so many options! You can always share your images on social media, but I also recommend purchasing wall art or other print products like albums to create a family keepsake. As your child grows up, they will love having the chance to look back and see what your life was like before they were born—and how excited you were to welcome them into your family. Maternity photos also make great gifts for the grandparents-to-be!

How do I find the right maternity photographer?

When choosing a photographer for your maternity session, you want to find someone whose style matches your vision for your images. Ask friends and family for recommendations of local photographers or check out Instagram or Pinterest for images you like and photographers in your area.

Remember that your experience is just as important as the photos you receive! So, talk to your favorite photographer about their process and the products they have to offer. Don’t be afraid to ask any questions you may have! The more you know, the better you can make an informed decision about what photographer is right for you.
